QUALITY EVALUATION

During the manufacturing process of products ordered by the client, we perform several quality controls, both by the operator (known as on-line self-checks), and by the quality manager. The purpose of these controls is to ensure the quality of the products ordered by the client, as well as to avoid having to continue working until the final stages with a product that may have a defect that cannot be corrected, with the corresponding expense in leather, as well as the manufacturing cost itself.

The controls carried out before, during and after the process are 3:

Control of raw materials and components

Self-control in each of the production phases

Final control of the manufactured part

CONTROL OF RAW MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS:

Responsible: cutting and pattern making operator

Main tasks:
A visual inspection is carried out on all materials and their functionality, including leather, zippers, hardware, and other components involved in the manufacturing process.

  • If a minor defect is detected in the material, it is rejected before entering the production line.

  • If the defect affects the entire batch of material(s), a quality alert is issued to both the Quality Manager and the Factory Manager in order to request a material replacement from the supplier.

  • Once the replacement request has been made, the client is informed of the defect and notified of any potential delay this may cause.

After the replacement has been requested, the General Manager, together with the Purchasing Department, will monitor the follow-up process — including the supplier order, credit notes, invoicing, and any related procedures.

Operator In-Process Self-Inspection

Responsible: Stage operator on the production line

Main tasks:
At Grupo Atelier, we understand the importance of operator self-inspection at every stage of production. For this reason, a significant part of our training efforts is dedicated to ensuring our team is skilled in this practice.
It is crucial that the operator performs a visual inspection of the product, identifying any potential quality deviations. Each production stage has its own specific self-control procedure, focusing on critical points of the operation — such as paint overflow, insufficient gluing, leather damage, or misaligned stitching.

Operators are also trained to detect and report deviations from previous stages. In such cases, responsibility lies with the operators themselves, who will only escalate the issue if the deviation is significant or affects the entire production batch. Any such notification is directed to the Quality Manager.

If a deviation is found to be recurring across the entire batch, it is the Factory Manager who informs all personnel involved in production and conducts the necessary training to eliminate the issue.

FINAL QUALITY CONTROL

Responsible: Quality Manager

Once the product is completed, the Quality Manager carries out the final, thorough inspection, checking for any possible manufacturing defects.
It is the Quality Manager who determines —in line with the client’s quality standards— whether the product is approved for shipment.

Whenever a product is returned to the production line due to a quality defect, the Quality Manager explains to the person who made it where the defect is and how to repair it, whenever possible.

The standard inspection includes the following checks:

  • Review of cutting and pattern work

  • Product assembly

  • Removal of excess threads

  • Paint finish

  • Overall appearance of the product

Leather Belts

Once all quality control stages have been completed, the product is dispatched either to the client’s facilities or to the location they request.

By ensuring rigorous quality control at every stage, we minimize product returns from stores or end customers, achieving optimal satisfaction among our clients.
